Things to do
Intimate falconry experiences to suit any level of confidence or knowledge.
A hawk walk is a gentle stroll around the Forest with free flying hawks following on and flying to your gloved hand.
The walk starts with an introduction where your guide introduces you to the hawks and give an induction on the equipment and hawk handling. The hawks used will be chosen to suit your level of confidence.
During the initial walk to the flying area everyone will have an opportunity to carry the hawk if they wish. Once the hawk has been released for free flying you will be shown how to recall the hawk to your fist or a raptor post if you are a little unsure. You will then set off along the tracks and trails of the forest with the hawk following, flying from tree to tree. Then be given the opportunity to reward the bird either from your hand or post where everyone can enjoy the thrill of the hawk’s return. The Hawk Walk will continue at a leisurely pace allowing you to enjoy the hawks in flight and rest.
The role of the participant does not allow for the opportunity to take photographs during the walk, its very difficult to operate the shutter with a falconer’s glove (spectators are welcome to snap away). With this in mind we will have dedicated photography spot during the walk, you will be able to take these oppotnuities to get those hawk selfies and flight shots for you to share your experience and get those great facebook profile pictures.
