Just to clarify, given this week's closures, is it open as normal 12/13 June??

🌟 parkrun announcement 🌟

We’re pleased that parkrun are ready to restart nationally and we look forward to the time we can welcome adult parkrunners back to Moors Valley. We support parkrun and after careful consideration, we've decided to adopt a phased approach to restarting events. Smaller events such as Junior parkrun have restarted in recent weeks and we're closely monitoring the success of these events week by week.

As we move towards the summer months more and more people want to enjoy the park and forest. This year we also have the addition of increased demand for staycations bringing more visitors to the area. Adding to this pressure by permitting large events at peak times will lead to other visitors being turned away and risk overwhelming local communities with traffic.

We'll continue to work with the Moors Valley parkrun core team to put plans in place to restart parkrun in September, restrictions allowing.

To help you continue to enjoy your running at Moors Valley why not try one of our waymarked 3,2,1 running routes, or our specially constructed fitness trail providing a wide variety of exercise options that are ideal for those getting back into exercise, as well as those looking for a more strenuous workout. For 1-2hrs early Saturday morning, I really think that will impact there ability to host staycation holiday makers..... I thought we were all locals and would be welcomed back with open arms...... so wrong πŸ˜‘

Maybe other Park Run venues are delaying the return until the Autumn like Moors Valley but it’s sad not to be firmly in that 88% who seem to be advertising a Summer re-start…

I understand there are some difficult decisions to make. I'm not sure I follow the rationale being stated though. 9.00am on a Saturday has never been a peak time for you?

Very disappointing indeed. Turning your back on local park users come rain or shine, not to mention a national health initiative that brings people together in a celebration of health and well being. I’m so surprised by your short sighted approach and I hope we regular park runners are all able to get over your disregard for our annual loyalty and return to you when you want us back. I’m struggling at the moment πŸ˜”

This is very sad as impacts on whether parkruns across the country can return as it runs the risk of overflooding other local events. I hope this was taken into account when making this decision.

This is a shame, thankfully this hasn't impacted the national return of park run, although it will put pressure on other runs in the area so the problem is just moved and less spread as a result. It feels a little like you're prioritising the high season trade over a locally participated event that brings you trade and/or short term visitors. You could easily 'open' the park at 10am if it was deemed at capacity before this time due to PR. I expect most of runners have left by 10am leaving you free to let as many 'day visitors' in as allowed. Dissapointing

Can you explain why Forestry England has approved other parkruns like Bedgebury Pinetum - Forestry England and Alice Holt Forest - Forestry England but then says this about Moors Valley. It makes absolutely no sense. All sites are busy during weekends but many have little going on between 9 and 10am. You will force people to go to other parkruns (presumably your aim) and lose the parking fees and cafe fees you would have received as additional revenue. People may also stay longer and spend more. It is really disappointing that Forestry England made it a local issue rather than coming up with a national framework like parkrun UK did.

Some quite harsh comments here. Personally I have a degree of sympathy on both sides. My concern is what will happen in the long term as I presume this pressure on parking during the summer is/will be an annual difficulty. Perhaps a notice could be put on MV website/entrance alerting visitors that there is particular pressure on Saturday’s before 10.30?

With Brockenhurst delayed also it puts huge pressure on Lymington which is a small venue with limited parking. The landowner although given permission were already concerned...

Please could I chat re above. I'm with BBC South on 07834 159687. Many thanks.

Amazing!

Thanks for the update, however like many I am disappointed. I do understand as I assume from a business perspective it makes sense for you (the day trippers/tourists are more likely to stay all day, use the train, eat lunch etc) However please don't forget us parkrunners who are there rain or shine and fill your cafe for coffee and breakfast on a windy November morning. Looking forward to September β˜•πŸ³πŸƒ‍♀️

This is very disappointing and I hope it comes back soon. The reasons given are just excuses.

I don't think you have a clue how important Parkruns are for people's physical health and mental well-being. The past year has been tough enough without you now turning your back on all us locals who are desperate to get back and run socially again. Moors Valley is by far the biggest Parkrun in this area and by your own reckoning might have attracted 700 runners post covid...............those 700 runners are now going to run elsewhere and potentially overwhelm other local and in most cases much smaller parkruns which in turn puts them in jeopardy. What was the point of me renewing my annual parking permit recently? And it's not even a Forestry England decision - this is a Moors Valley Country Park decision!! I feel so incredibly let down by you as I was really looking forward to seeing everyone again at the end of the month and enjoying the enormous mental health benefits and routine of all running together every single Saturday morning.

So basically. You know that parkrun starts at 9. The majority of people leave by 10/1030 as that’s the deal with a £1.20 ticket for parkrun. You know that holiday makers arrive at 10ish. And now you are worried that with park run taking up car park space you’ll turn away cash. Remember that park-run brings you business EVERY week of the year. Will this decision be taken every year in the summer months?

Please respect their decision, if you keep moaning they might say no!

Disappointing!

Fantastic news!

Very lame excuse in my opinion. Nothing stopping parkrunners from turning up though and running the route, lots of people have been doing their local parkrun course albeit not at 9 am on Saturday.

Ridiculous

Disappointing from Moors Valley Country Park and Forest that they have taken this stance. The Park Runners quite often stay afterwards with their family, plus the revenue they bring to the park with parking and food/drink from the cafe. I’m pretty confident that the park is not busy on a Saturday morning at 9am and certainly nowhere near capacity. πŸ€”

Lisa and Vicki. Can we try this park run when it’s back up and running please πŸ™ x

Very disappointing

Have you spotted our newly hatched cygnets on Moors Lake and Crane Lake? They're still very young and only just finding their feet, so if you're lucky enough to spot them on your next visit please give them space to explore safely from a distance ❀

It can be hard to keep the kids occupied, and even harder to find new outdoor activities for the family.

I would like to visit with my daughter later this afternoon. It's a 45 minute drive for us. If we get there and the carpark is closed, does it reopen as people leave?
