Join Stick Man on his winter forest adventure at Moors Valley (Dec 2015)

Moors Valley is inviting families into the woods this winter to help Stick Man find his way back to his family tree and be reunited with his Stick Lady Love, and his Stick children three.

The Stick Man trail is the latest initiative organised by Forestry Commission England in conjunction with Magic Light Pictures, following the award-winning Gruffalo Forest Tour in 2014. Based on the much-loved book written by Julia Donaldson and illustrated by Axel Scheffler, Stick Man is published by Scholastic and set to premiere this Christmas on BBC One as an animated special.

The self-led trail can be enjoyed at Moors Valley from 5 December. A further 23 Forestry Commission forests across England will also be hosting trails, allowing children and families all over the country to join Stick Man on his forest adventure.

While following the trail route, children and families can take part in activities based on their favourite book character. The trails through the forests using activity points to allow them to live the epic adventures of Stick Man, whilst also learning about the importance of forests for people, wildlife and timber.

In addition, there will be activity packs available for £3, which will include a fun-packed activity leaflet, sheets to create your own Stick Man rubbing and pipe cleaners to make your own Stick Man, a chunky crayon and a pencil. These special packs will encourage children to discover the great outdoors, in magical woodland surroundings.

Matthew Beavan, Visitor Services Ranger at Moors Valley said, “This imaginative self-led trail will encourage families into the great outdoors to enjoy their own great adventure, and of course the Stick Man story has a particular appeal at Christmas time as he is helped home by none other than Santa Claus.

“We are delighted that we are able to open the Stick Man trail on the same day as our Christmas tree shop and craft market and look forward to providing a new and exciting reason to visit the forest this winter”.
