Christmas Countdown at Moors Valley Country Park (Nov 2012)

Searching for golden pine cones, decorating a giant advent calendar and making your very own wooden reindeer are just a few of the activities on offer at Moors Valley Country Park in the countdown to Christmas.

On Sunday 25th November, from 10.30am to 12.30pm and 1.30pm to 3.30pm, all the family can take part in the festive preparations at Moors Valley and decorate a giant advent calendar. There is also the opportunity to make cards in time for Christmas. There is no need to book and cards cost £1 each.

Park for free when you buy a Christmas tree

Whilst at Moors Valley why not visit the Christmas Tree Shop, and choose your tree from a range including traditional Norway Spruce and Nordman Fir. The shop is open from 10am to 4pm on Saturday 1st to Friday 21st December, or until stocks last, and parking is free at Moors Valley when you buy a tree. There is also the opportunity to find some unusual Christmas gifts at the Local Produce Christmas Market, which runs from Saturday 1st to Sunday 16th December. All items are produced locally in Dorset or Hampshire and include a range of beautiful handmade crafts and gifts.

Mini Christmas adventure

Don’t miss the chance for a mini-Christmas family adventure in the Hunt for the Golden Pine Cone on Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th December. The story begins the journey into the heart of the forest, where children discover some of Santa’s secrets and help him search for the magic golden pine cones. They can also take home their very own baby Christmas tree and wood cookie keepsake. The cost is £5 per child, adults are free. The pine cone hunts begin at 11.30am, 1pm and 2.30pm and places must be booked by calling 02380 286840.

Father Christmas also visits  Moors Valley on Sundays 9th and 16th December and can be visited in his grotto after a ride on the Santa Special steam train. Children and adults also receive a special gift as well as some festive refreshments. Book your ride for 11am, 12noon, 2pm and 3pm on either day at a cost of £12 per person. Festive Fun Days

If all this isn’t enough, you can get creative on two festive fun days being run from 11.30 to 4pm on Sundays 9th and 16th December. There’s no need to book for the Christmas crafts and activities, just turn up and join in the fun.

Later in the month you can enjoy the Festive Quiz Trail running from Saturday 22nd December to Sunday 6th January, between 11am and 2pm. Pick up a trail card (£1.50) from the Information Point and answer the festive fun questions for the children and 2012 general knowledge questions for the adults on the mile and a half trail.

If festive food is more your thing, then Moors Valley’s very own restaurant, Seasons is serving Christmas lunches and running a Party Banquet Night at 7.30pm on Friday 7th December. This special family event includes a three-course dinner, DJ, music and dancing and the cost of £27 includes a ticket for a charity raffle.
