Highway Rat Trail
Follow panels and discover the forest as you head on a journey with The Highway Rat and all the characters from the story.
Available every day from 20 January until November.
The Highway Rat is the latest Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler book to be brought to life on our forest trails. Join the Highway Rat on his forest adventure, completing fun activities and spotting characters from the story along the way.
The trail is aimed at younger children, but the whole family can enjoy looking out for the characters and joining in the activities.
Go in search of Highway Rat-themed panels, each with fun facts and activities to try. As you go, complete four rubbings and take your picture with the life-sized Highway Rat ‘Wanted’ poster!
You can find the start in the forest picnic area, follow the signs from the Visitor Centre.
The trail is 2km long (just over one mile) and may take up to an hour and a half to complete if walking with very young children. The trail is on forest paths which, although in the main, are firm underfoot, can get slippery and a little muddy during and after periods of wet weather.
Taken photos of your Highway Rat adventure? We’d love to see them! Share them with us on social media with #TheHighwayRat.
