Conservation and Visitor Service Volunteers

If you would like to do your bit to help your local country park we can offer a number of opportunities to take part in a variety of tasks including practical conservation, wildlife surveying, eductaion and visitor service.

We are looking for local people to join our friendly team of volunteers to provide help across a variety of tasks which help us enagage with our visitors and look after the habitats and wildlife. We welcome anyone who likes working with people of all ages and abilities. No previous skills or experience are necessary just a keenness to help others. All the opportunities below are offered from Moors Valley.

Practical Conservation and Maintenance Volunteer

If you enjoy the outdoors and practical work, becoming a practical conservation volunteer may be just for you.  With over 240 acres of parkland and 900 acres of forest to look after, the Ranger team are always looking for more hands-on individuals to join the volunteer force. The friendly group meets every first Wednesday of the month with a 9.30am start and flexible finish times. There are also extra task days if and when needed. No previous experience required, just the willingness to get stuck in and be outdoors in all weathers. Informal training and full support provided.

Wildlife Survey Volunteer

If you enjoy the outdoors and have a passion for wildlife, becoming a wildlife survey volunteer may be just for you. With a large variety of habitats (woodland, wetland, heathland, grassland) and two SSSIs supporting a huge number of species, the Rangers are always looking for knowledgeable enthusiasts to keep an eye on the flora and fauna found in the Park. You will be contributing to national databases as well as informing the future management of the habitats. You don’t need to be an expert and you may be able to be buddied up with existing volunteers if applicable.

Events and Education Volunteer

If you are enthusiastic about nature and love sharing this enthusiasm with children and families, becoming an Events and Education Volunteer may be just for you.  With a busy events schedule throughout all school holidays and a full schools program the Education team is always looking for friendly volunteers to join them on activities like pond dipping, bug hunting, crafts and seasonal events (from 2 hrs per activity, flexible commitment). No previous experience required, just an approachable, open personality. Informal training is provided, a CRB check might be applicable.

Visitor Welcome Volunteer

Moors Valley is visited by about 850,000 visitors each year. If you love helping and interacting with others, becoming a Visitor Welcome Volunteer might be the perfect opportunity for you. Get to know the ins and outs of the Park and share your expert information with visitors. Provide orientation by directing visitors to facilities, advising of daily events and explaining the Park’s values. In this role you will be a friendly welcoming face and support the communication between the Ranger team and visitors. No previous experience required, just an outgoing personality and positive attitude. Uniform, training and support provided.

Admin Volunteer

If you enjoy getting behind the scenes and working with office software, becoming an admin volunteer may be just for you. With 850,000 visitors to the park every year our visitor services team is always looking for individuals to support their admin function at busy times (ca. 2 hrs a week at peak times only). You will help with data input and you get to send out parking passes to grateful organisations, too! No previous experience required, just the ability use a computer. Informal training and full support provided.
